Fuel Consumption #3
Verdict: Improving! Which is good. Let's hope it keeps on improving.
The car's been getting between 11.2 to 11.8 km/litre.
I suppose I should be happy that the 11.8km/litre run was done mostly on the way up to Penang between speeds of 110 to 140km/h. =)

Before and After
This post is way overdue. Here goes.
Before:

The 4G93p before rebuild.

Dirty cylinder head.

Dirty old piston.

The crankshaft, before cleaning and balancing.
After:

Engine block after rebore.

Cylinder head after cleaning.

Cylinder head after 3-angle valve cut.

New pistons! With the conrods, after balancing.

The entire bottom end after balancing.

The clutch after balancing.

Balancing marks on the crankshaft.

The flywheel after balancing.

The 3-angle valve cut job. Up close.

New ACL bearings..

Exhaust ports before porting.

Exhaust ports after porting.

Intake port before porting.

Intake port after porting.

Fuel Consumption #2
Petrol: Shell Super
38.81 litres to 420.8kms
10.84 km/litre
9.22 litre/100km
RM0.24/km
I suppose its pretty ok for a 1.8 in mixed city/highway conditions.
note: previous petrol was Mobil

Fuel Consumption #1
First fuel consumption is in:
40.58 litres to 438.4 km
10.8 km/litre
9.26 litres/100km
RM0.25/km
Thats slightly below expectations =\ I was hoping to get around 12km/l.
Hoping that its partly due to the ecu still finding the optimum settings.

Finally!
The car's finally back from the rebuild. 35 days without a car. Not easy.
First impressions:
Throttle response improved quite a bit. The car feels more eager and changes speed to the slightest touch of the pedal. Engine feels smooth. Can't really tell for sure now since I'm limiting it to 3000 rpm for the first 1000km. Gearshifts are also very smooth now - a bit too smooth for my liking though. A short-shifter could rectify this, perhaps? Hmm.
Waiting (im)patiently for the break-in period to be over.

What is an engine rebuild job?
Its like a full overhaul, and some more.
This is a summary of what will be done to my engine:
- Engine is stripped down completely and cleaned.
- New Parts: Pistons, Piston Rings, Gaskets, Con Rod Bearings, Main Bearing, Timing Belt, Water Pump, Clutch, some Valve Lifters
- Services: Block Re-Bore, Valve Cut, Bottom End Balancing, Port & Polish
